Asia Bui Accepts Contract with Sarasota Ballet

- Alumni Update -

We would like to welcome Asia Bui back to the Florida Dance Community, as she joins the Sarasota Ballet for the 2015/2016 Season. After getting her professional start at Houston Ballet, Asia joins the growing Florida dance troupe of 52 Dancers, directed by Iain Webb. In July 2007, Webb (former Royal Ballet Artist) took over the directorship of The Sarasota Ballet and under his leadership the Company has performed 123 ballets and divertissements including 35 world premieres and 6 American premieres. These include ballets by Ashton, Balanchine, Bourne, Cranko, de Valois, MacMillan, Tharp, Tuckett, Tudor, van Manen and Wheeldon.

Asia first came to ADC at 11 years old, with incredible raw talent. Having won several awards with her Tampa based school, America's Ballet School, in 2008 she was honored as the 3rd Recipient of the Fernando Bujones Excellence Award. At age 14, Asia furthered her classical ballet training at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida under Victoria Schneider, Olivier Pardina & Svetlana Osiyeva. When Asia turned 16, she was accepted into the Houston Ballet's Second Company, where she trained under Sabrina Lenzi & Claudio Munoz (whom became a part of ADC in 2015 as a Jury Member). In 2013, Ms. Bui was promoted to Apprentice, and in 2014 further promoted to Corps de Ballet. While in the Company, Asia was given the opportunity to perform the feature role of Clara in Ben Stevenson's The

Nutcracker. She has also performed in Houston Ballet's Etudes, Giselle, Ballo Della Regina, John Neumeier's A Midsummer Nights Dream, Swan Lake, Four Temperaments, Stanton Welch's Marie, David Bintley's Aladdin, Paquita, The Merry Widow, La Bayadere, and John Cranko's Taming of the Shrew.
